Bare bones hotel next to Stanley Park

The hotel was clean enough, cheap, and a nice walk away from downtown, if you don't mind walking for 2km. There was a shared bathroom and shower, and locked bike storage. Overall it was pretty good for what I needed.

This is an older building, the rooms are small and basic. Our room showed a bit of wear, but was clean. Shared facilities such as bathrooms and common areas were kept clean. I would say this just a step up from a decent hostel in some ways. You are not getting high-end accommodations, but you do get a safe and reasonably comfortable place to stay in an amazing location for the price. Neighborhood is really nice, and proximity to Stanley park is a great perk.

in decline, housekeeping and location were excellent. Paint peeling in bath and bathroom ceiling, bedside clock did not work, front desk staffed for only a few hours

I'm sorry we didn't meet your expectations. I would like to clarify that our front desk is staffed 24 hours a day.

We found a mouse hole, and a mouse trap out in the middle of our room.

Thank you for your review. We have this debate in the office all the time. Being next to Stanley Park, and an old porous building, unfortunately unwanted guests do get in. We do our best to seal holes, and the traps are a proactive measure to stop them.

nice location, quiet

Pros: location and cleanliness
Cons: a sign designating if shower is available or in use (to avoid walking the hall to find out)
Location: We loved the bike ride around Stanley Park, walking around town, window shopping, and trying various restaurants.
The hotel is in a nice location on a lovely street. It is within walking distance of Stanley Park (You can also rent bicycles nearby) and downtown. The hotel is basic, but also very clean. There is no elevator. The staff was very helpful. I would gladly stay there again.

West End Cheaply... Parking can be a challenge

Picked this hotel to be near some of the highlights of Vancouver--Stanley Park, Lynn Canyon, etc.--and was not dissapointed. Facility is somewhat older but clean and bed comfortable. Only challenge was parking... street parking is tough to find. Ended up with a ticket for misreading Permit zone v. 2-Hour zone in front of hotel, parked second night many blocks away in area's available overnight parking at another hotel (thank you to the Buchan for providing this info in advance!), $25/night. In short, a great choice for being right in the midst of the West End affordably but be prepared for parking challenges... probably true for most of area's less expensive hotels.

Great value, fun Hotel

Pros: It's classic feel. Real keys, vintage lobby. Fun place to stay.
Cons: Oh there's probably a lot that could be "improved" but that would destroy its charm. Many people will be put off by the lack of private bathroom.
Location: located in a great neighborhood with everything you need. Library is a block away.
Excellent vintage hotel with a lot of charm and good wifi connection. The price is very reasonable.

Good location and cheap, but...

Pros: The quiet, residential setting and location to Stanley Park and other Vancouver tourist attractions.
Cons: Room cleanliness
I stayed here for two nights while I participated in a half marathon and 10k that ended at Stanley Park. The location for the race was really ideal, since it was only a few blocks away from the park. There are also many restaurants and coffee shops about a block away, as well as, Safeway and Whole Foods. The hotel is about a 20-30 minute walk to downtown and about 50 minutes to Granville Island. I let the hotel know ahead of time that I would need extra time to check out after the half marathon and was allowed to check out at 12:30pm without additional charges. That was super helpful for me. Overall though, my stay was just okay. They could do some things to make people feel more comfortable. The biggest area of improvement is the overall cleanliness of the room I stayed in. There were obvious smudges on walls and mystery substances on the carpets. I've stayed at many budget hotels and while I never expect anything luxurious, I do expect my room to be clean. Wiping obvious spots on walls and deep cleaning the carpets every now and again isn't expensive or difficult for them to do. When I return to Vancouver, I would consider staying here again, but would likely explore other options.

Buchan Donation

I cancelled and had to pay anyway. There was no bathroom or sink in the room and no elevator in the 3 story building. I was traveling with 2 seniors and the accommodations didn't fit our need.
