The Little House, Orford
This holiday home sits in a quiet corner in the quintessentially English village of Orford, an ideal spot for exploring the Suffolk Coast and Countryside. Interiors are cleverly designed and beautifully furnished with everything you need for a relaxing break at any time of the year - air-conditioning to heat or cool you; a modern wood-burner for winter months; and sliding doors opening to the deck and idyllic private garden for indoor/outdoor living in spring and summer.
A quaint stable door takes you into the heart of this compact single-storey holiday home where the open-plan space incorporates a living area with double doors sliding onto the private deck, and the kitchen and a breakfast area. A door and hatch to the bedroom and en-suite beyond allow you to watch the TV from the comfort of the bed or have some privacy if you prefer!
The kitchen wraps around a corner with an electric oven with an induction hob and extractor, a slimline dishwasher, a fridge with an icebox, a washer/dryer and a Nespresso machine (please bring your own pods). There's a couple of comfy chairs so you can sit back and watch your favourite programme on the wall-mounted TV; a circular table and a couple of chairs so you can dine at home if you prefer; and a desk in case you need to work from home.
The bedroom is fitted with a super comfortable king size cabin bed (accessed from one side only) with some storage basket beneath it and the wash basin sits by the door to the adjacent chic shower room with a double shower head and WC.
OUTSIDE This charming retreat sits in a secluded corner of the grounds of The Great House which is available to book for ten people - wonderful for a celebration weekend with friends and family!
During your stay, you will have exclusive use of the herb garden surrounded by a tall yew hedge for privacy, with cobbled paths, and a wrought iron table, chairs and a parasol so you can dine alfresco. You're welcome to bring one small/medium-sized dog for a charge of ÂŁ25.
A private gate at the side takes you down a path to Broad Street, which leads round to Market Hill where you can get delicious pastries from Pump St Bakery in the morning and eat or drink at one of the pubs or restaurants; and down to the Quay in the opposite direction.
GUEST COMMENTS "What a gem the Little House. It was a wonderful place to unwind in and so very peaceful. We plan to return."
"A lovely stay in 'Little House' - a perfect way to slow the pace down from a busy few months. Bird song in the morning, lovely walks, great local pubs, and well-equipped accommodation."
"Many thanks for a lovely stay in the Little House. There is everything we hoped for and more. Thank you for all the small touches too; the towels shaped as swans, washing tablets left easily accessible etc. Of course, Orford is beautiful and we could only feel a sense of the opportunities and history here."
Please note that strictly only one dog is permitted to stay for the charge of ÂŁ25, this is a small property and not suited to more than one small dog.
Super dog friendly âcabinâ near heart of village centre. Completely private and self contained from main house with own private gate.
Well equipped, compact bed not ideal for anyone over 6 foot!!!
Be warned high step onto decking to access property but all level once inside.
Highly recommend Sunday lunch at local hotel and sour dough loaf from bakery, both easily walkable .
Great location for exploring Orford and the surrounding areas, the Little House was beautifully designed and the thoughtfulness of the layout, facilities and quality of the finish were very much appreciated. Three excellent pubs within easy walking distance, plus restaurants serving local, delicious produce.
The garden too, was delightful, enabling a feeling of full privacy from the adjacent ownersâ house.
Fully equipped kitchen, lovely sun terrace and easy access in and out.
If we were to critique anything - and we caveat these comments with the recognition that a beautiful garden full of trees brings many birds - we struggled with the amount of pigeon poo over not only the garden chairs and the path in and out (it had rained a lot one day) making the chairs rather unpleasant to sit on comfortably and the path slippery.
It also meant our car, parked under the trees for 3 days, was absolutely covered in large splodges of bird poo all over the roof, bonnet and windscreen which we hadnât anticipated.
