Maria is a sweetheart and ensured my stay was wonderful. The infinity salt water pool is a joy to swim in, grounds are lovely, property is classy and interior design exquisite. Prob the most luxurious place to stay on Terceira, yet the price is most reasonable. I suggest booking directly with Maria at geral at quintadamerces dot com. For those of us non native Portuguese speakers, Maria will happily converse with you in English. She and her late husband (2016) lovingly restored what was essentially a ruin 18 years ago. Asked to see the before and after photos. Her collection of beautiful objects from her extensive world travels is a delight. Check out her collection of teapots. If you enjoy staying at a place with style and history, Maria’s home is your address.

over-priced given the lack of services

Publié le 8 avr. 2017 sur Hotels
The staff was great but this is definitely not a full service hotel...it has a ton of character as it's in an old manor house with very pretty grounds and close proximity to the water. Great breakfast and comfortable enough but it would be nice if there were a bar/restaurant in the hotel - while the closest restaurant is probably a 20 minute walk away, it's not really walkable. I walk everywhere but got halfway to town and turned around as I didn't feel safe walking at night due to the narrow, windy, dark roads that have no sidewalks. The pool was unusable which is understandable given I was there in March, but the gym was unusable as well which should be accessible year-round. Also there is no wi-fi in the rooms, only the common areas, and the service isn't great. I paid the same rate for a hotel on Sao Miguel that was full service so I would have to say that this hotel is overpriced relative to what you get for your money.

Nice place run by an adorable couple

Pour : In a renovated farm house
Contre : Decor was a bit conservative for my taste but nonetheless nice
Emplacement : Well-located facing the water a short distance from Angra.
This hotel is a renovated 16th or 17th century farmhouse and is run by a very adorable couple. We arrived somewhat late and had to leave earlyish the next morning but enjoyed our time here even though we did not get a chance to use the tennis court, game room, snooker room, pool, etc. It is just a short drive into Angra which is convenient. Breakfast was good but not great.

My wife and I stayed at Quinta Das Merces for 3 days in April 2011 while on our honeymoon. Especially in comparison to the other place we stayed, a larger chain hotel on Sao Miguel, this place has so much character and charm. The 17th century manor house has been turned into a comfortable B&B, plus there's lots to explore around the grounds. Alcino, the proprietor, is very friendly and kind. He helped us plan our touring around Terceira, recommended places to eat, and made our stay incredibly enjoyable. There's tons to see around the island, but after a day of exploring its great to come back to the friendly atmosphere and idyllic scenery at Quinta Das Merces. The location is just off the main coastal road in between Angra do Heroismo and Sao Mateus. Its a significant walk into either of these towns, although the bus runs regularly past the hotel entrance and with our rental car we had no difficulty getting around. If you're driving, be forewarned that the entrance comes up FAST around a corner, but the sign is large and obvious so you'll know when you're there. Our only complaint about our room was that it was consistently a little bit damp. Obviously this is just part of the deal considering how old the building is, and leaving the windows open solves the problem. Overall a fantastic experience, and I highly recommend Quinta das Merces to anyone!
