The hotel is right in the heart of the historic district which is the only reason to stay. We booked adjacent rooms. The ceilings are higher than the rooms are long, or wide. They are rather tight with little storage space for suitcases. I would say that the star rating is more to do with the location than the quality of the hotel. It's very tired and uninspiring. The reception area is very dark and damp. The bar is tatty. The staff were helpful and friendly. If you are looking for nice comfortable base to retreat to after a long day's sight seeing, this is not it.

Morning Mick,thank you for your review although frankly quite questionable if not outright defamatory.We are talking about the most historic hotel in Bologna, the result of the fusion of seven buildings and a tower dating back to 1400; the load-bearing walls and the constraints to which we are subject do not allow us to "shape" the structure as we please but we must respect precise limits.As was agreed until the 19th century, the rooms had high ceilings, a feature that has been preserved by us, which does not justify being a negative factor, without considering that the wall where the headboards of the beds rest is more than 4 meters, certainly our ceilings are yes high but not that high.There is a closet in the room where one can store one's clothing and suitcases; along with it is a convenient luggage rack.To describe a hotel as "tired" after it has been renovated and with some work still in progress is not exactly the most correct term; the new reception desk itself during your stay was being set up, perhaps because the new electrical system had not yet been completed and the previous one was still in operation, 48 halogen spotlights that are anything but unlit, regarding humidity there is no trace of it, yet another piece of defamatory information.Please allow us one piece of advice from now on: do not wait 2 months to leave a review, you may very well get confused with other facilities visited later and avoid harming those who passionately and honestly do their daily work.Hotel Roma in Bologna

Convenient, comfortable and reasonably priced

We liked the convenience of being located in the center of the city. Breakfast was buffet style and lots of choices from eggs, meats, cheeses to sweets, crackers, and cereals. My only comment about our room was our shower. It was leaking every time we used it and made our bathroom floor soaking wet. The other amenities were dated but sufficient for us.

Location, location, location

Location, location, location.
Posted Oct. 24, 2023 on HotelsExcellent location, couldn't have been closer to the central square area. Room decor is an acquired taste but old world Italian style.
Hotel needs to up its game, In room kettle was broken and main door squeeked, the AC wasn't functioning and the breakfast was mediocre. It was OK for one night but my wife was very disappointed.

Good morning James.Thank you for reviewing us, we are happy to know you enjoyed our location in the heart of the city.We deliberately chose to keep a classic style being ours the most historic hotel in the city, rather than an ephemeral style dictated by the fashions of the moment, which is well documented by the many photos on the profile page and in the room type at the time of choosing the same.Two years ago we started a deep renovation of our hotel, which is still not completely finished, as you will have noticed during your stay.However, we would like to dwell on a not insignificant detail of the review: the air conditioning was not working.Every country has its own rules regarding air conditioning, heating and environmental protection: Italy is very attentive to these issues and there are national and local regulations that determine when and for how long heating and air conditioning systems should be put into operation.In the room the air conditioning was deactivated because required by law.
