For a 5 star hotel the one time we ate at The Star was very disappointing. I ordered granola, yoghurt and fruit for my breakfast and was served a bowel of yoghurt with a sprinkle of granola and four berries on top. Plus the scrimping on the amount of alcohol in the cocktails was also very disappointing given they were charging $25.

The experience that is The Grand Star Hotel is amazing, literally luxury on tap in plush opulent surroundings. Our room was spacious, well appointed and a luxury design and fittings. My only negative was that our keycard kept being overridden when using the elevators. By this I mean that we would get in, set our floor in the control panel but if someone else entered after us their tap would cancel our instruction and we would be forced to travel to their floor before we could get to our floor. This was extremely frustrating and annoying when they were not hotel guests but only casino guests!

Beautiful with partial river views

Booked a staycation for our anniversary. The hotel is new and lovely, and had wonderful amenities. Two things though: 1. We had booked a River King Room. While there was definitely a view of the river, it was a partial view from part of the room. When in bed, you had a view of a close by building and inner city. Other hotels in Brisbane are incredibly transparent when you have a partial view, which would have been appreciated. 2. The Star is large and unfortunately their signage is lacking. When trying to use lifts it wasn’t always clear which tower you were in, so half the time our cards wouldn’t work and we would have to go back to the ground floor and make our way across to the other lifts. Even trying to find the lifts was a trial.
