Horrendous start the lift was broken an mum is 86 an disabled an partly blind .for health & safety it wasnt right. rooms weren't ready. He said was cos of lifts .lifts or not if Ur hotel says check in 3 u should check in at 3 not 4.20. the reception guy was on his own as was moth eaten, was chocca with ppl standing around waiting for rooms, There should of been more staff to deal with it . We wanted to go in the pool which said it closed at 5 Wen we asked he said 4.?? An by the time U check in it will be closed. !! It was mums Xmas present off her daughter's to stay here with nice hotel with a lift an pool .it was not what we booked .she had to walk up four flight of stairs. We got to the room an ours 305 was so badly arranged the TV was facing the wall so no TV in bed U couldn't move it ..the radiator was cold it needed bleeding the room was freezing we had to get up me an my sis an put our jumpers on. The bathroom was tiny..he said he didn't think we would get our money back if we went somewhere else cos we booked through Expedia an his ppl higher up would av to adjudicate it..this is not excepable. No matter who U book with the hotel was not fit for wot we booked. They didn't deliver , instead of sending me an invoice on the frid they should of sent an email informing ppl that the lifts weren't working. That is not our problem .he said the lifts went working from Friday. !!! If we would of known that we could of got our money back form Expedia ..it jus ruined Chatsworth

Small, economical room at the rear, but very clean and well equipped. Efficient heating and hot water. Our stay was quiet and restful. Many thanks.

Radiators needed bleeding so the room was glacial. Front desk dismissive and unhelpful. Breakfast staff could not do enough to help but too many customers and too few staff.

Location, next door to the train station, elevated position overlooking the town. Front facing room had distant views to Solomons Temple and surrounds. Convenient for all my needs. Onsite parking available. Excellent base for walkers, hikers, a distinct clientele of older folk and frequented by theatregoers to Buxton Opera House. Rooms are big, full of character as befits a grand victorian building. No noise from traffic or anything, at least not from my second floor front room. Clean, quiet and very comfortable, ideal when based here for several nights. Rooms are warm due to older type heating with exposed hot water pipes between rooms. Can't really be controlled but my large window opened enough for cool air. Ensuite wc perfect, furniture and useful tea making facilities too. No room cleaning unless booked the night before. It's a big building to service but I didn't think this would be an issue, but with my five night stay I should have had the room serviced at least once. Reception staff very helpful in all other respects, very smart, knowledgeable too. Breakfast can be booked with the room booking or, as in my case, I booked each day's breakfast the night before at reception. Breakfast is a proper, all you can eat affair. Couldn't fault it. Stuff yourself or take your pick! And the breakfast staff need special praise for doing such a good job. Yes, we'll worth the extra cost, as really, just not worth going anywhere else around the town, as you'll never get this value.

We were disappointed with the a few things in this hotel. The rooms are really just OK, the rooms need modernising, paint peeling off the ceiling, broken tiles, TV stations break up constantly, it needs some attention to really be credible 4 star in the standard rooms. The grandeur of the property doesn’t match the rooms sadly. We also had a constant rumbling going on in the evening. The full English breakfast is the focus, everything else is pretty limited in choice, which is difficult if you want a break from fried food. We didn’t use the bar, but the prices looked reasonable. It’s a popular and busy place, but it just didn’t live up to our hopes and expectations. The location is great for getting around. They seem to have cut corners to make savings, but it does show in the quality of service provided for their visitors!

The room was small but adequate and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our breakfasts and had plenty to choose from. The bar staff were pleasant and helpful. It would have been good to have some evening lights on the outside path down to the town. The gardener had a difficult job to clear the leaves from the path. He did a good job
