One night stay over.
We had a lovely 1 night stay at this quirky place before popping into Cambridge the next day. We stayed in the superior studio with a great double bath and view of the horses next door.
We did have trouble getting some of the TV channels to work, the plumbing noises from other rooms was quite noisy and did disturb our sleep. Not sure if it was people having late showers or a washing machine somewhere. And we wanted to play darts downstairs but they were all broken. However... The food was amazing. Couldn't fault it. And the staff all extremely friendly and helpful. Overall we had a great stay over.
Staff friendly and attentive when we arrived and nice room. However, for the price improvements need to be made:
- main issue -we booked a room advertised to be for 3 adults and stated was a king size bed and a single bed. We had a call on the day of check in to check it was 3 adults (as opposed to 2 adults and a child) which we confirmed was the case. When we came to check in, the "single bed" was actually a fold up camp bed with a very thin mattress which was not fit for purpose for an adult. The first night a member of our party had a terrible night with a bad back the next day. The second night we put a cushion under the part that folded which was a little better. For the price and for being advertised as an actual single bed and a room appropriate for 3 adults this felt misleading.
- when we fed back, we didn't feel this was taken on board - initially it was claimed that we were informed of this in the call the day of check in - not true, but even if it was, that still would not have been acceptable after payment was taken and on the day of checkin when too late to book an alternative place.
- the shower cubicle seemed a portable type cheap fitting. I do appreciate given the low ceilings however that space may be limited but for the price it wasnt what was expected. The shower itself while not the most powerful was a good temperature.
- could hear staff in early hours. Appreciate building limitations for soundproofing but would expect staff to be considerate of guests
Charming and quaint pub. Very old building so floors and walls a bit uneven but that just adds to the charm. We had the 'superior suite', which had a huge living area with a massive bath!, separate ensuite with shower and a separate bedroom. The staff were very helpful and attentive.
Ideally located in a very quiet spot within easy reach of Cambridge or Newmarket.
My only slight niggle would be that the breakfast wasn't very large, but then I do like a big breakfast!!
Great stay and amazing service from the team. The manager could not be more helpful or attentive. We stayed for nye for a wedding nearby. Had the suite room and loved the extra living space. Shower room was a bit small but manageable, which is understable with the beams and character of the building.
We had the breakfast the next day and food a service was great.
Would stay again.
I really wanted to like this place, itâs in a great location in a small village halfway between Newmarket and Cambridge. It serves food and beer! The staff are really trying hard.
The room I booked was the main âsuiteâ above the bar. The room was big with nice eclectic furniture. It was let down by very cheap refurbishment. The lovely oak beams have been filled with really cheap MDF. Worst still the the cheap bathroom with the worst shower cubical ever: think plastic coffin meets tiny wet wardrobe. Itâs criminally poor design that just say âwe donât careâ⊠I hope the place learns from these errors. It has great potential
