I have stayed at the fable multiple times now. The buffet breakfast is decidedly average and not worth the $$ imo, but the hotel is great, the staff are nice, it's central and easily accessible and they have a nice sauna. I always check here first when I'm staying in Christchurch!

Great location, so convenient to get around, city tram is literally downstairs, easy to catch buses to airport too (#8 and #29) and will definitely stay here again. Staff are very friendly and helpful; love the welcome drink at the bar; lovely greeting card and sweet macaroons in the room on arrival. Tip - politely request the room facing the stadium, and you will be amazed with the view. - The shower and tap was a little tricky to operate (adjusting water temperature)

We have stayed in this area before which is very convenient but first time at the fable. Was very comfortable, the room was on the small side but very well laid out. Had everything we needed for a great weekend and our dinner in the restaurant was beautiful. Will definitely come back.

Poor reception welcome

Any business is only as good as it's worst staff member and I think we were checked in by this person. 2 girls pushed past me in the doorway as we entered (I am disabled and use crutches, they literally pushed my crutches out of the way) but my husband was in front of them. This person insisted these girls were before us to check in.... which I wasn't having and in return he was rude and gruff and incredibly unhelpful. The hotel itself is fine, great location for us, nice room, comfortable bed, quiet. But sadly, our trip is remembered by that rude first "greeting"....

Great location in the centre of Christchurch right next to a laneway full of restaurants and bars. A short walk (10 minutes) to riverside markets where there are a whole lot of food stalls, cafes, restaurants, and bars. Plenty of parking next to the hotel. Also, next door is a small mall with a convenience store and bottle shop. Clean, spacious room and friendly staff.
