Deanscales has a lovely pub, village green and beck. Your nearest lake is Loweswater, which is one of the smallest lakes in the Lake District, yet arguably one of the prettiest. Loweswater is the first link in a chain of lakes including Crummock Water and Buttermere. The area boasts beautiful flora and fauna as well as an abundance of wildlife, including buzzards, kestrels, ospreys and of course red squirrels. A trip to Loweswater wouldnât be the same without a trip to the local pub, famous for its great food and possibly even greater beer! Famously brewing the award-winning Loweswater Gold, itâs a âmust tryâ. The surrounding area has many attractions and places to visit. The popular town of Cockermouth is just 3 miles away with a delightful selection of independent shops, supermarkets, restaurants, coffee shops, delis and pubs serving a variety of craft ales. Itâs also the birthplace of William Wordsworth and home to the famous Jennings Brewery nestled beneath the castle walls.
If you fancy a day at the seaside, you have a great beach St Bees Head, 15 miles away, with a long stretch of golden sand and plenty of great walking and cycling routes. For golfers you have several great courses in the area, the nearest being Cockermouth, 6 miles away. You may want to head to Whinlatter Forest, 7 miles, with some nice gentle cycling trails or high adrenaline tree top adventure at Go Ape. Continue along the Whinlatter Pass to Keswick, 16 miles, to find everything this bustling town has to offer. The Lake District Wildlife Park at Bassenthwaite, 10 miles away, offers a wild day out with over 100 species of wild animals. Beach 12 miles. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant 530 yards.

We had a great stay at this beautiful cottage that has been excellently finished, restoring and developing the original features. The modern amenities have been included without detracting from the cottages features. A work of art by owners Phil and Cathy

A wonderful cottage full of character and features offered by great hosts. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay in August 2019.
From the lovely welcome gifts to the contents of the cottage - all has been taken care of providing you with a relaxing, comfortable experience.
The cottage is set in a quiet area in beautiful surroundings and we loved looking out the bedroom window seeing the sheep grazing within a great backdrop.
Had great nights sleep due to the comfy bed and the walk through shower room although contemporary has great features.
Coming from a city, this was the ideal cottage we were looking for and ticked all our boxes. Even though it was August we made sure to enjoy the wood burner every evening.
All parts of the cottage has so many unique touches which pleasantly surprised us.
Looking forward to our next visit and will be recommending to all.
If your looking for a traditional cottage full of features with comfort in mind - Definitely consider Springlea Cottage in Deanscales.

A very lovely, quirky, well appointed period cottage with original features and positioned well with fantastic views. The owners, Cath & Phil, made us feel very welcome and wanted us to feel at home in the cottage during our stay and couldn't be more helpful.
Our journey wasn't a long one but being able to have a cuppa and enjoy some lovely home baking that had been left for our arrival was greatly appreciated.
Little touches with the wild flowers collected for the cottage rooms made it feel homely and for dog owners there is the use of a dog bed, food & water bowls, towels, doggy bags & those all important treats..... Our little puppy settles very well during our stay.
We had everything we needed for our stay as the kitchen was well equipped but if you fancied eating out the pub was just a short stoll away! Numerous maps & books were available and we even had a little note left on our door with tips on local walks in the area.
The cottage is a short drive to the beach, the local town of Cockermouth and the Lakes are reached in no time! We had a lovely week in a fantastic little cottage in a great place!
