The lady that checked me in was very nice. The AC in the room had a problem and the cleaning chemicals were a little too strong. In the morning, I was watching the news in the lobby with no one else around and all of a sudden, the channel changed. I turned around and looked at the reception desk to see what was going on and the guy tells me that I can't watch the news because it might cause a fight. First of all, I didn't turn it on. Second, no one else was watching.

Other than small mixup at checkin using Expedia, the room was ready early. Place is clean. Bed is comfortable. Easy free parking. Short drive to Univ of Iowa. Free standard hot breakfast. They also had free dinner but we did not try it. Place could be renovated as it seems dated (only reason I did not give 5 stars), but I would definitely stay there again for cleanliness, price, convenience, and friendly staff.

This is a wonderful place for families of patients at the hospital to stay. The shuttle is a plus, as are the meals.

Property location is good but my room, 208, was one of the dreariest I've stayed in for a while. There is a moisture or humidity issue in that room, perhaps elsewhere too from reviews I have now seen. Room seemed clean but smelled very dank, moist, gross (and I have a very poor sense of smell post-covid). Carpet felt moist, so much so that I didn't want to walk on it barefoot. Lighting is also poor, so with the dark carpet it felt cavelike. I know it is a budget offering but the smell/humidity is not welcome at any price point. Thank you

I’ve stayed at The Heartland several times before. Reliably clean, but rooms had felt dated. This trip clean as ever, but room felt recently renovated. Wow! Definitely worth more than I paid!

Comfortable and well designed, even though it’s clearly an older building. My only complaint was that the breakfast area was too crowded. It’s a poor layout because you have to double back a lot to get your stuff.

Bed was hard we only had 2 pillows per bed which we made work .. we were on 1st floor and floor above us extremely loud but all and all it was a fine quick stay breakfast was lots options and stocked
