Along with a restaurant and a coffee shop/cafe, there's a snack bar/deli on site. WiFi is free in public spaces. A rooftop terrace, tour/ticket assistance, and laundry facilities are also featured at Hotel Aiwan-e-Shahi. Self parking is free.
OK, the location first. The hotel is right in the heart of Old Delhi, opposite the Jama Masjid. The whole area is completely congested and noisy, probably more than I thought it would be . That said, we had no problems getting around. The tuk tuks were very useful here.
On to the hotel. The pictures paint a different story to reality. We arrived early morning to find at least 6 people asleep around reception, which shocked us a little bit. We had booked 2 X deluxe rooms but I am pretty sure one of them was not.
One major disappointment was that the rooftop cafe had closed down. This was one of the reasons for us booking here as we could spend time on the roof relaxing but in the end this wasn't possible as it was dirty up there.
In my view this isn't really a hotel well suited for foreigners. It has the potential to be a lot better.
We were only there for 1 night, checked in at around 6pm and the power went out at 9pm, we fell asleep waiting for the power to come back up and the power was still unavailable when we woke up. This caused an inconvenience since we were checking out at 9am and was unable to charge any of our devices.
Besides that the property was located in a prime location. Steps away from Jame Masjid, Chandi Chowk and the famous Karim's biryani spot. The hotel rooms were nice/updated. It has a nice rooftop restaurant with a great view. Unfortunately, the power going out was a pain. Some suggestions are to have coffee/tea and water in the rooms.
I have since found several other hotels in Delhi that offer better rooms for less than this place. The service was pretty poor, specifically in regards to ordering breakfast in a timely manner.
The breakfast itself is passable, but nothing special, while the view from the roof was the only notable feature of this hotel. Location is good for visiting the Red Fort and Jama Masjid, but overall not very comfortable for foreigners.
