The property was under construction. All the animals in the petting zoo had been relocated, so that wasn't an option. In our "luxury" accommodations, the telephone didn't work, and the light fixtures were broken.

Great food! Close to Highlands and Clayton (great shopping). Rooms were outdated, drapes broken, light bulbs burned out, dated furnishings. Bathroom desperately needs remodeling.

It has a lot of history but rooms are outdated, property has a lot of construction. Food at the restaurant was mediocre at best. Meal supposed to have fried chicken, ribs and ham. Chicken was great but ribs were replaced with the worst pork chops I’ve ever had and was told they were out of ham. Still charged us $60 for 2 people. Food was meh.

I was really disappointed with our stay at the Dillard House and feel compelled to share our experience. We booked two rooms—for my family and my parents—for two nights, and from the start it was far from the level of hospitality this place is known for. Room Issues: There were bugs in our room, and we had no hot water the first night. People from the adjacent rooms came to us asking if we were having the same issues. My Parents’ Room Was Emptied Mid-Stay: After the 1st night, housekeeping cleared out my parents’ room assuming they had checked out—threw away my mom’s coffee from the fridge. I think they were hoping to give the room to someone else even though we paid for both nights and did not check out. False Promises for the Kids: When we checked in, staff told us there would be campfire and games the 2nd night. There were flyers posted everywhere, and my kids were excited. We cut our time short in Highlands and rushed back early to make it—only to show up to pitch black, no games, no fire, nothing. When we called to ask, all we got was “sorry” with no explanation and no effort to make it right. I brought up all of this to the front desk and nothing was done. I work in construction—I understand renovations and logistics—but this wasn’t about that. This was poor hospitality and no regard for guests’ experience. This stay was not what I was expecting from a place built its reputation for hospitality. Unfortunately, we will not be staying again.

We booked a room through hotels.com for last night Saturday, Oct 11 through this morning, Oct 12. I always had enjoyed coming to the Dillard House and eating lunch there 15-20 years ago and watch the deer come up to the window. As I understand alot has changed since then and we believed we were staying at a stellar place, which this was not. It felt like we were in a Days Inn or even worst. We stayed in the Blue Ridge rooms and they were the most outdated and we felt like we were in a time warp. When we walked in the room, my wife wanted to walk out. We paid $300 for this and if we could have gotten a refund we would. These are the things that were wrong with the room - Dead Bug on the wall. -Live Bug on the wall. The management did come in and get them. -The bathroom sink had no stopper to it and there was a toothpaste cap and something else logged in the drain. -The room was musty. -The TV did not work half of the time. -The bathroom mat in the shower was glued to the floor. -The light, fan switch, and the dimmer were very old in the bathroom along with the tile and tub and fixtures. -The chandelier in the middle of the room was from the 40s. It seemed that nothing has been updated in the room since it was built in the 60 - 70. It was a waste of money and we would like to be refunded. We will not been staying there again or recommend it to anyone. I believe we were taken advantage us for hotels.com for recommending this place.

The new owners are remodeling. It is nothing like the old Dillard House and may never be. Hardly anyone is there. I would not recommend staying there until all the remodeling and construction has been completed. People are nice, but the place is under construction, with gravel at the entrance until they can pave it. It's a mess.

I arrived after dark and the lights hadn't come on outside yet. I had never sta it ef before, so I was a little discombobulated. The front desk person (I forgot her name sorry, (9-18-3025) but she was phenomenal. No matter what I brought to her, she met me with kindness, concern, and solutions. I finally settled in snd slept great. Thank you for helping me feel comfortable.

This is an honest rating and it considers the construction under way. Once complete, this place will be incredible. We were very satisfied with our stay even with the construction underway, but we are looking forward to staying again when it is completed! Great staff, conveniently located. We will definitely be back!
