Check in process was annoying, incoherent, and a bit sketchy at first glance. We were told of a 30min delay to finishing cleaning the unit (tbf we were not arriving till later anyway). The pinned location on the check in instructions was incorrect and 2 âblocksâ away. When we arrived the smell of raw sewage was rife. We were told it would be addressed, but never mentioned again. When we asked for a late check out, it could not be accommodated. Checkout instructions indicated a bin outside to dispose of refuse, however no bin or further instructions were present.
A night before we were supposed to arrive in Edinburgh for our stay at this beautiful cottage our flights were cancelled because of storm Ăowyn. We tried everything to get to Edinburgh, however because of the danger to life the country shut down all roads, trains, and any way of getting to Edinburgh. We communicated with the hosts and asked if they could work with us to either give us a refund or if we could change our dates. They did not want to compromise at all and were very cold during our communications and did not even acknowledge that the storm was occurring in Scotland and Ireland. I am really disappointed with how they handled the situation and will not be booking with this company for our future Edinburgh trip. Just forewarn you are dealing with a big company, not a locally run rental so donât expect the warm Scottish hospitality.
The location and the unit were good. There were 2 areas of concern- 1. Air Freshners - two VERY STRONG air freshners were in the bathroom. This overpowered you the minute you opened the front door. For those of us who get migraines from this, it was aweful. We put them outside but the overpowering smell stayed the whole time. Consider just using vanilla if you feel you have to use anything. 2. Additional sheets and blanket - My sister and I are both over 60 years old. This means we usually have to get up at least once during the night. Crawling in and out of the bed if you get the side against the wall wasn't an option. One of us slept on the couch, but would have loved to open the sleeper sofa and use it. However, with no extra sheets, we didn't do that. One slept on the couch and used one of the throw blankets. Otherwise, this was a fabulous place and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
when we first used the shower the water was tepid/32, not comfortable but usable. The last 2 days we were there the water was too cold/28 to even take a shower and this was adjusted to the warmest setting. If it had been that cold when we got there I would have called so it could be fixed but it wasn't worth it 2 days before leaving. Also the door to the patio was very very hard to unlock and lock so as a result we simply didn't use it.
This flat is simply the perfect base from which to explore Edinburgh. It's super clean and quiet (though the upstairs neighbor can be loud, bring earplugs), has all the amenities you need, the wee garden is beautiful (such a restful oasis in the midst of a bustling city!), and it's extremely conveniently located close to all the major sights, bus tours, shopping, parks... The only thing we'd suggest is that they provide an extra set of sheets and a duvet so you can use the pull out couch. There were only two of us but we wanted to sleep in separate beds and just had to use the throw blankets for the couch mattress. We also pulled it out of the couch and put it on the floor as it's super uncomfortable as a pull out bed)
Small and cosy apartment good for a couple.
Great central location, easy for trains, trams and buses and all major attractions can be easily walked to. Remember though that Edinburgh is not entirely on the flat.
