False Promises

Posted Aug. 2, 2022 on Hotels
My friends and I planned a 2 week long trip to Italy with our stay in Tuscany being our middle stop. While we were very excited to arrive, we were quickly let down once we realized what we expected to get with our stay was not possible. We booked Via Hotels.com and were told we would have a room with Air Conditioning as well as laundry services on site. When given our rooms, we were met with the lack of AC and 2 fans to “help”. There was also no laundry available on site and we resorted to hand washing 6 peoples clothes in the bathtub. It was an adventure to say the least but not one we were expecting mid trip. The restaurant around the corner from our hotel was the saving grace of the trip as well as two of the other local wineries. The views are stunning but just know going in, you will be getting many un air conditioned nights and lack luster responses from the hotel staff.

Beautiful castle on the Tuscan hills

Very beautiful location. Excellent hotel in the Tuscan countryside. Food was top notch and view of vineyards and olive trees amazing. Highly recommendable to anyone looking for a romantic style holiday under the Tuscan sun.

This hotel is unreal. Outrageously nice. The landscape in breathtaking, the staff is incredible, and the restaurant / tasting room is remarkable. The rooms are giant, clean, it's like staying in a giant suite. I had the standard room and I was blown away. The whole place was incredible.

We had a fabulous 4 night stay here. Would definitely stay again, the location was amazing. We enjoyed breakfast and dinner at the lovely restaurant and the wine tasting was fantastic.

Beautiful serene setting in a castle in Tuscany

Posted Oct. 14, 2017 on Expedia
Pros: Privacy, beautiful views; the olive oil is organic and the most delicious I've ever tasted. Their wines are very, very good.
Cons: The mattress in the apartment was lumpy and needs replaced, but it was worth it. Please add English subtitles as an option on the tv.
Location: Take a drive and you will see castles, vineyard estates, and quaint small villages at every turn. The landscape is stunning; wine tasting abounds.
The setting was serene and rustic, the views breathtaking, staff was gracious and the dinner was exquisite. I want to live there!

Experience Chianti in a medieval winery estate

Posted Sep. 25, 2016 on Expedia
Pros: Location, views, spacious rooms within unique renovated castle, multiple areas to roam, excellent restaurant, friendly service, good wines, good value
Cons: Thicker towels would be nice.
Location: The Village of Gaoile, Castello di Brolio and other Chianti region castles, vineyards abound.
Beautiful hilltop location, with breathtaking views. Medieval fortress and villa allows one to experience Chianti from a historic and soulful perspective as you walk across cobblestones that have been traversed for centuries. This is not a cookie-cutter hotel setting and we loved it. Our suite was huge, comfortable, quiet and clean, with both a large bedroom and separate large living room. The antique and eclectic furnishings were interesting and the rooms were functional rather than creatively decorated. The hotel provides a rustic and authentic atmosphere more than a luxurious one which, again, we truly enjoyed. There is also a huge area on the top floor for reading, watching TV or just lounging, which leads to a rooftop terrace from which the views and sunsets were stunning. The independently operated restaurant has been beautifully updated which provides an elegant setting for their upscale, perfectly prepared dinner, popular with locals as well as hotel guests. The restaurant collaborates with the hotel to provide breakfast for guests. Theirs is no ordinary bed and breakfast offering, which definitely adds to the value of staying at Rocca di Castagnoli. The estate still operates as a highly-regarded winery and the onsite wine-tasting room and barrel room tour is another plus. Service and congeniality abounds from all staff encountered in the hotel, restaurant and winery. We were happy to be there and sorry when it was time to leave.
