A Charming Guesthouse in Melville!
Posted Mar. 13, 2018 on ExpediaCorlien and Pierre were very hospitable and friendly hosts. They have an excellent staff who work hard to ensure one's comfort (kudos to Patrick, Pretty and Patience!). The breakfasts were delicious...the menu extensive. As a cat lover, the very lovable Cesar made the environment like home!

Friendly staff and great service

The staff were warm and welcoming and took extra care to arrange for a very early morning departure and even made sure that I had breakfast before I left. The room was spacious with separate bathroom and closet areas. My one complaint is that the room was quite chilly with no heat and my visit was in the winter. Electric blankets are provided for the bed at night but, the room itself was too cold to comfortably relax in during the evening. (I understand that central heat is not common in SA but, a few small space heaters available to guests who request them would have made my stay a 5/5.)

I am delighted that you liked your room at Ginnegaap and that the staff took care of you. I am, however, really sorry that you did not see the air conditioner in your room. We know it is quite chilly at night during the winter months and over and above electric blankets, we have air conditioners in all our garden rooms and apartments with heaters in our budget and standard rooms. I hope you will visit us again so that you can have a nice and warm room during your stay.

Wonderful stay!
Posted Jul. 17, 2017 on HotelsWe loved it. Everyone is very friendly, the breakfasts are excellent and it is close to shops and restaurants in Melville which is a great area, Also, Jacob, the driver and tour guide is affiliated with the guest house is great as well.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review Ginnegaap and your positive comments. You mentioned that it is not safe to walk in Melville till about 5pm. Although I understand that one is cautious to walk around at night with Johannesburg's bad reputation in the foreign press, Melville has a good reputation for walkers at night. If you follow the rules for walking around any big city, nothing will happen to you. Of cause I cannot guarantee anything, but for the last 8 years, we only had one incident of someone being robbed on the street by a person who saw an opportunity.

Lovely place, warm staff

Pros: Room and bed were big. Wifi works properly. Very attentive staff. Good location. Great breakfast.
Cons: Nothing I can think of right now!
Location: Melville is nice, lots of restaurants and bars around, very safe. Just try to avoid Main Rd at night.
We had a lovely stay at Ginnegaap. The staff and owner were so nice and attentive to our needs, even when we asked for a cab arrangement after reception had closed. The room has everything you need, including a huge bed, a safe deposit box, a nice bathroom with amenities, a flat screen TV, an iron, and even an emergency button just in case. Breakfast was big and has a lot of options, and if you have to leave before breakfast time (like we did) they can prepare one for you the day before so you don't miss out on that as well. Overall, a wonderful place.

Quaint residence near hip area.
Posted Jan. 7, 2017 on ExpediaThe owner and staff were very friendly. They helped organize a day tour of Johannesburg which is key for this city. Great breakfast, much more than we expected from a hotel in this price range. Room was modest but clean and had everything we needed. I would recommend this place as it gives you a chance to also explore the Melville neighborhood, which is a nice diverse area and close to everything.
