Conveniently located between Johnson City and the Hye/Stonewall area and not to far from Fredericksburg. The on-site winery, brewery and restaurant are excellent. The food is great and they also serve the beers and wines from their own facilities. The suites are very spacious and have a separate bedroom and living area as well as an outside porch. All staff are friendly, courteous, and helpful. We have stayed in many places in this area over the years and now this is our go-to place to stay.

It was an okay stay, but there were flies in our room when we got in. We called the front desk to clear out the flies while we left to get something to eat, but I don't think they did anything because there were still flies when we got back. There was also hair in the bathtub, which was disappointing. Another annoyance was the bathroom door. It was a barn-style door, which honestly didn't make sense to me because, while it was easy to operate from outside the bathroom, the same cannot be said for while inside the bathroom. It was difficult to open it close the door from within the bathroom. Also, the bathroom light switch was outside the bathroom, so if one wanted to use the bathroom at night, you'd have to turn on the light before you got into the bathroom. This has the unfortunate side effect of bathing the bedroom with light and waking the other occupants of the room whenever one went into and out of the bathroom. I think this design choice was an oversight and should be fixed. The Old 290 Brewery restaurant was very good, on the other hand. The food was excellent, the ambience and the service were top notch as well.

This is our third time staying at Carter Creek and it is always a wonderful experience. From check-in to check-out the customer service is always outstanding. A special shout out to Danielle who sent welcoming emails and also called to let us know we could check into our room earlier than check-in time. David was our server in the restaurant and he provided outstanding service and made our dining experience so special. Sarah checked us out and she was so sweet. Carter Creek is a very special place and we look forward to our next visit.

I absolutely LOVED my stay at Carter Creek!!! So much so that I became a member and I will be a repeat visitor. The staff was attentive and friendly from the front office, to the spa, to the restaurant wait staff, to the housekeepers. I absolutely loved being surrounded by butterflies while drinking my morning coffee or wandering the grounds. My stay was just after the devastating Kerrville flood, and I loved that Carter Creek had set up a benefit within days of the disaster to financially support the victims. The only thing I found disappointing was that no microwave was in the cabin. I am used to always having access to a microwave during a stay. Maybe the one for my room was broken and had just not been replaced, but no microwave was a disappointment. A tip for the property: please update your online booking/communication concerning the spa. We booked a spa session online, but never received ANY type of confirmation that our booking request had been put in the book. Had we not called the spa to try and schedule, when they then told us they had us down, we would have been charged for the service as a “no show” which would have been terrible. However, because we called to talk to someone a mishap was diverted. I’m just glad we are “double-checker” people. Overall my stay was amazing and I am so looking forward to visiting again in the fall! (A 4 instead of 5 was due to the communication issues with the spa and no microwave in the room. It was still a wonderful experience.)

Beautiful Property

The property is very nice. However, check-in is not until 4 pm. We were not aware that you had to request breakfast for the next day by 5 pm. We missed this because we did not get into our rooms until almost 5 pm. Unfortunately, the hot tub was cold.
