With 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom this unit is the perfect size for a couple out for an unforgettable Hawaiian retreat. At the end of the day, relax outside on the private lanai with a mai tai & simply take in your the incredible view as the sun slips behind the Pacific Ocean you’ll be able to enjoy amazing Hawaiian sunsets from both the lanai and the living room! New mattress installed May 2019 & new sofa bed July 2018. NOTE - There is no air conditioning.

Located on the top floor (4th floor) in the very quiet Kona Bali Kai condominium complex, this condo is ideally situated close to all activities, beaches, shopping, and restaurants in Kona. You’ll find tide pools directly outside for exploring, and the famous Banyans surf spot is located right in front. “Da Poke Shack," rated number 1 on Yelp’s “100 Best Places to Eat in America,” is conveniently located on the premises, so definitely make sure to check it out for a tasty meal! Edgar is a wonderful host! The condo is an older condo, not far from Kona town. The view from the lanai is wonderful. Whales spotted most days. It’s a little schlep from the elevator to the condo, but once you’re in, it’s 3 flights for a shorter path from the garage.The bed is comfortable, and good fans throughout. Ali drive can be noisy in the evening, but earplugs help with that. Da Poke Shack is part of the complex. Best Poke and Kailua pork plates around.

The condo was very nice, lani was beautiful with great views and comfortable lounge chairs, although the unit was a little dated it was very clean. The main 2 reason for 4 stars are: 1) the bedroom is on the street side and there is quite a bit of traffic noise and 2) the notes should have included a facility map including directions from the elevator. We got there late due to a rental car snafu and did not know there was an elevator. Humping bags up 4 floors after flying all day was not fun only to find out in the morning there was an elevator.

The ocean waves crashing captivated as soon as we walked into the condo! We opened the sliding door to the lanai and I parked myself there for almost the entire stay. We had everything needed to fix meals and enjoyed all meals and coffe on the lanai
 just a wonderful experience. I loved the HI decor and HI artwork in the condo and nice touches of aloe cucumber lotion was really appreciated. Parking and elevator was easy. My husband snorkeled almost every day, making use of our host’s recommendations. We went to the Standing Stone Church next door which was great! Enjoyed this relaxing vacation so much and hope we can return.

The ocean front view was amazing. Unfortunately, the overwhelming number of German roaches spoilt our stay. I did contact the owner, who never apologized. He was unwilling to get a professional out asap to treat the unit. My husband does pest control, and roach motels do nothing with German roaches. However, someone is scheduled to come out now we are leaving. There was no where available for us to move to on short notice. VRBO’s “guarantee” didn’t help either. I am disabled and we chose this location because of that. The unit itself has a great view, but the furniture is worn and the bathroom shower has rust spots and chips. The pool was supposed to be heated- it wasn’t. The washer dryer were very loud. The bed has seen better days, but so has the building. The location and view could not make up for my husband and I having to kill roaches every night. Pro tip leave the light on and less venture out from their holes. Wash everything in the kitchen before using. Because we found roaches in cupboards. If the owner had expressed any kind of apology, I’d have felt a little better about the situation. As it was it felt like we were held hostage, because all VRBO’s were sold out, and we’d have had to pay double for something last minute, and it would not have had the accessibility I need due to my mobility. We are so disappointed. And VRBO’s lack of care considering their “guarantee” means I will look elsewhere in future to find accommodation that I can rely on.

Communication with our host Edgar was excellent. The unit was clean and well stocked although there was a broken lamp. We enjoyed use of the beach chairs and cooler for beach days. We slept the first night in the bedroom but it was loud from street noises and bright from outside lights so we spent the rest of our stay sleeping on the fold out couch in the living room and enjoyed the sound of the waves every night. They were sand blasting in the parking garage so there was a lot of noise and dust at times there, and the one way entrance was being used as an exit as well, making it a dangerous exit. The location was great and close to shopping and numerous great beaches to swim, surf and snorkel.

We experienced a cleaning issue that resulted in us cancelling our stay after arriving. The on-island contact and owner were both very responsive and attempted to resolve the issue; the owner also provided a refund without contest. Based on the other positive reviews, and the communication, I'm willing to believe it was a one time problem rather than a pattern, so my review will focus on other elements.

You can't beat the view from the lanai! It's a great location for venturing with plenty of options nearby, or a good base for exploring the entire island. Everything in the unit was clean and worked. The property itself is showing its age and wear. Some reviews have mentioned the road noise, but that isn't a distraction if you're not trying to sleep in .... and there's too much to see and do on the island to spend time sleeping in. The host provided great instructions, details, and tips a few days before our arrival. The unit is stocked with a good assortment of beach gear for use by guests.

Staying at Kailua Kona

The Condo at Kailua Kona was a bit pricey. The furniture was outdated and uncomfortable. While the bed was great, it was very noisy in the bedroom since it faces Ali'i Drive. The outside lights on the walkway were on all night which is great, but the room did not have black out curtains so the bedroom was too bright all night long.The ocean view and sounds from our lanai were wonderful. It was easy to get to shops and restaurants by car in just a few short minutes. Parking at the condo was easy.
