Book a real hotel if you want to sleep
Tired building with paper walls, clean, friendly staff, NOT recommended if you are intending to sleep.
If you need to sleep, bring professional earplugs, normal ones won't work. You will hear absolutely everything going on in the rooms beside you. I had a horrible night.

Short stay
Great location with easy walk to station etc. There was some disturbance of noise by other residence using Wi-Fi calling late at night (2 nights). Would recommend for short stay.
Hotel is both beautify and cozy and the staff was always extremely helpful. Their mastery of English for international travelers was very good and there were few times when something had to be explained differently. Hotel is located about 10-15 minutes walk North of the JR station near the center of Kyoto where the two Buddhist temples are located (free to enter).
PROS
Close to the center of town near and between the two central Buddhist temples.
Inexpensive bicycle rental (600 yen a day) with rear wheel bike lock.
Small but well maintained traditional rooms.
Quiet neighborhood.
Laundry and kitchen areas are available outside of the original hotel area (Ryokan has about 3-4 buildings total).
Traditional breakfast and other meals are made in the morning and served in the bar area downstairs.
Cons.
Rooms are small so groups of 4 or more might find them cramped.
No chairs in rooms, floor and mattress seating only.
Closet shower only and changing clothes in main room.
Not a lot of restaurants nearby so you might want to hit a convenience store to stock up the rooms refrigerator.
I made a reservation in April 2016 for August. After two months the hotel contacted me saying they did not have quadruple rooms and therefore if I wanted to add a second room. We are a family of four and my kids are 7 and 9 yrs old. I did not want an extra room so we managed to stay for 4 nights in a very small room. The worst was not space although. There was no isolation and I could hear my neighbors coughing. The toilet had no sufficient air extraction. The Ryokan itself is well decorated and new but space is scarce and isolation non existent.
Despite the beautiful location and the very professional and friendly staff, our experience in this guest house was disappointing. Perhaps the main problem with it is that the room was extremely noisy: windows and doors made of paper (!!) and thin walls don't help blocking the noise, as you can hear in your room a person talking few rooms down the hall. For the two days we spent there, we experienced noise both late at night and in early mornings. The staff gave us some ear plugs to shield from other noisy customers (and believe me, there are many!), but this is not the kind of service you are expecting for room that costs about 200 US$ a night. Rather than enjoying the experience of a traditional Japanese house, we felt more like undergrads in a cheap but overpriced youth hostel. For the same price, you can get a real hotel room in another hotel nearby, which explains why the staff asked us to pay for the full duration of our staying at at check-in rather than charging our card on the check-out day: we probably would have left on the first day.
-Not suitable for family~actually hostel style
-Nice & helpful staff with fluently English speaking
-location is nearby bus stop & subway station, better use the address provided by hostel to search for
