Enter the gate and pass the rows of stately palm trees and bright bougainvillea. Welcome to the Somerset, combining the best of beachfront living with the lifestyle and deluxe amenities of a gated community.

This 1,500 square foot, 2nd floor beachfront condo sleeps four, with one king bed, two twins, a sleeper sofa and two bathrooms.

Step out onto the balcony and you’ll do a double take. A view this spectacular takes time to get used to. Here are answers to questions people ask themselves when they see it for the first time: Yes, you really are this close to the beach. Yes, it sure is an amazing color of turquoise. Yes, it does look like you practically have the entire beach to yourself. The Somerset is on a quiet, uncrowded section of the Paradise Coast. You’re right, the balcony is a great place to entertain guests. That’s why we furnished it with a sun lounger and two separate tables and chairs. Yes, the sunsets from here are beyond words. We won’t even try to describe them.

The cozy interior is filled with all the comforts of beachside living at its best. The ocean colored furniture and decorative touches like sand dollar coasters and fish wall sculptures create an easygoing coastal feel.

The summer kitchen comes complete with modern appliances and cookware. The master suite features sliding door access to the balcony and an ensuite bathroom with his and hers sinks, a walk-in shower and ample closet space.

The unit is filled with comfort-enhancing features like air conditioning and heating, free wi-fi, cable, linens, towels and a washer and dryer. You’ve also got beach essentials beach towels, beach chairs, cooler and umbrella.

The Somerset surrounds you with amenities, like two heated pools, a ramada with charcoal grills, two tennis courts, fitness center and a social room, and you’re right next door to some of the Island’s favorite attractions. Take a short walk to Marco Golf and Garden, a miniature golf course in the midst of an award-winning garden. The decor is a little dated and for the master bedroom bed linens and pillows should be replaced, sheets were old and pilly and the pillows very flat and uncomfortable. It appears cleaning crew rushed through as we arrived and there were wet towels in the washer and the coffee pot and maker not cleaned. The south side pool was very noisy with young kids screaming and splashing, not very relaxing for a private condo association.

Beautiful views. Close to the beach with easy access. Unit is as advertised and could use some updating. Smelled musty upon arrival. Beds were comfortable but the carpet in bedroom has seen better days. Extra pillows would be nice. The kitchen had everything we needed but could use some new knives, utensils and towels. Overall enjoyed our stay.

Check in and out was super easy. We loved the view! We had our meals out in the balcony. However, the apartment is long over due for an update. There was not enough paper, there is a damp smell in the second bed room, the carpets also smell. All together way too many fees for this stay.

Here are the positives for staying at this unit: Ocean front, nightly sunsets, a pool, boardwalk access to beach, morning mocking bird chirping, grill access, comfy king size bed, washer and drier, great wagon for beach equipment, not a large crowd on the beach, newer dishes in the kitchen, beach towels. Here are areas of improvement: old shower heads, sheets were old and didn't fit the king bed, coffee table and end tables were old and paint peeling off the edges, rug in living room is old-throw out, beach chairs need to be replaced, picture frames on wall are falling apart and frames have chucks out of them, decorations were old and did not match. They need to update the unit.

Somerset is a great pace to stay

Check in was super easy. Housekeeping was still there when it was our check in time; the floor was quite dirty. The bedroom furniture looked new adn was quite comfortable. The rest of the apartment is quite dated, including furniture and especially the kitchen. You actually have to squat to turn on the cooktop or stove because the microwave is mounted very close to the top of the oven. Refrigerator is rusty inside and outside; the ice maker did not work, but after we called it to the management company"s attention, they happily brought us bags of ice. I am hoping the owners will modernize this unit because the view is great, the pools are great, the people at The Somerset are quite nice and the management company acknowledged our concerns and promised to pass them on to the owners of the condo. Right now, I would say it is not worth what we paid in relation to other units in the building.

The beach cart is on its last legs. The management company is responsive. Amenities at Somerset are good, eg, pools, walkways to beach, pickleball courts.

The building location is fantastic with many restaurants and conveniences in walking distance. The building has all the amenities with pools, fitness center, tennis/pickle courts and it is right on the beach.The actual unit has a beautiful ocean view. It is furnished adequately. Definitely furnished for “rental” versus owner occupancy. Definitely feel it needs a refresh including towels, linens and new carpet. Bathrooms fine but need some TLC and vanities are 4-6 inches lower than anything I have ever seen. The kitchen utensils, pots/pans, coffee maker etc feels like a college apartment where your parents gave you all their old discarded items. TV’s are good but wish they were smart TV’s for streaming. WiFi was good but be prepared the building blocks cell service remarkably well so phone calls best on the beach or away from the building. There were plenty of beach chairs and even some beach items for children.The mattresses are very good but the twin beds appear to be cottage twins versus normal size twins.The unit is best suited for a couple with children versus 4 adults. In the end you get what you pay for and our rental Somerset 203, was priced below other refurbished units in the same building. Overall pleased but if landlord invested just a little money it could be so much better. (January 2024)

That said, the condo needs a lot of updating, but it provided us with everything we needed with a clean, comfortable place, plenty of kitchen utensils and cookware, gorgeous views and sunsets which we enjoyed from the balcony, easy walk to the beach, perfect location. The management company, Marco Island Vacation Properties, was very responsive to everything we asked about in a very timely fashion (they get 5 stars) from replacing burned out bulbs and to providing a colander. In addition, there were 4 pickleball courts (2 dedicated, 2 shared with tennis court) which we used daily. Not being updated reduced the rating to 3.5 stars. We enjoyed it so much that we will be rebooking for 2024.

If only I could give 0 stars

My family and I have been vacationing in Marco Island for over 25 years and have never had such a horrible experience. From the moment we arrived we struggled to open the front door of the unit because it was eroded. After contacting the owner of the property management about the situation on the first day, he accused my adult daughter of breaking it. After walking in we noticed how filthy and dated the unit was. The shower floors were extremely dirty, the towels were so old they were basically falling apart, and worst of all there was evident mold on each of the air conditioning vents. This caused my family to have allergies the entire week, especially my youngest daughter which resulted in her having to sleep in my family members unit. Carpets and furniture were old and stained, pictures of the unit certainly misrepresented the reality of it. The only reason why we stayed for the remainder of the vacation was because there was nothing available so last minute on the island. Once the vacation came to an end and we went to return the keys to the management office, I requested to see and speak to the owner of management company. He was incredibly rude and and accused me of wanting a refund because I was from Miami, assuming that I couldn’t afford the rental. Not once did I mention a refund. He also threatened me when I said I would be writing this review. I highly recommend choosing another unit and property management company!

July 2021 Stay

We’ve been coming to Marco island for 10 years now, it never disappoints. This was our 5th stay at different condos in The Somerset. We love everything about the location and the building. It was nice being on the second floor. I was really disappointed with the exorbitant booking and cleaning fees..especially since there was mold in the master bath shower and the carpet was dirty . Also, there were only 4 bath towels, and the sheets on the master bed were paper thin worn and stretched out, they came off the bed every night. We had to fight with the lock on the front door almost daily, it is very finicky. Sometimes unlocks right away other times it took minutes to get it open. I don’t mind outdated condos, I can deal with that, but people pay good money for their stay and should be able to have enough towels and sheets that are serviceable.

Also, a partial view of the pool from the balcony was a plus. The condo was pretty clean but it needs updating. Old dated wallpaper throughout the whole place. The second bedroom was dark and had a stale smell to it. We missed having ceiling fans or small rotating fans. It was hot a few days but we desired to keep the slider open to hear the waves and didn't want to turn on the air. The sliding door to balcony was very difficult to lock. The outlet on balcony is fried. Cabinets need updating. Kitchen was stocked well for cooking except no salt/pepper/spices. A plus was a washer/dryer. The huge TV in livingroom was awesome. Pool was warm except for 3 days when the power went out for a few minutes during a storm and the pool didn't get reset. Pool area had a restroom. We liked that The Somerset is gated and that a key is required to access the pool and private walkway to beach. The condo provided beach chairs and other beach goodies. We found lots of shells including starfish. 10 min walk to restaurants like Sunset Grill, Pinchers, Salty Dog and a 7/11 convenience store, movie theater and a little shopping. Short drive to Airboat Rides. We enjoyed hitting the bars and listening to music on Goodland (another short drive).

Marco Somerset

We love Marco Island and Somerset. Our condo was clean but old. Needs updating! It also needs new glasses, utensils.and appliances etc, The air conditioner broke while we were there but was fixed the same day. Also had a person in for water heater. Not really what we want to be bothered with on vacation. Also, beach chairs need to be thrown out. But we love the Somerset condo building.. beautiful, great location and will definitely be back.

All you need

Older condo, kind of a strange layout. No frill. Limited cookware, grandma’s dishes. Newer sofa. Awesome bed in the main bedroom and a great shower in the guest bedroom. The balcony view and sunsets are the best
