Pohara Beach, a location that is enjoyed by so many families all year round, your family will love the freedom of staying by the beach. Walking distance to the local cafes and store. Only minutes to a boat ramp, golf course, less than 10 minutes to Takaka, 5 minutes to the golden sands of Ligar Bay and Tata Beach. Enjoy an evening BBQ on the deck or relax with a good book. Pre-approved pets are welcomed into a safe fenced area - good for toddlers too!

The Neighborhood:
The golf course, boat ramp, Pohara Beach plus the golden bays most popular and loved beaches, Ligar Bay & Tata Beach, are a short drive away.

Only a short drive from the famous Mussel Inn, and to Collingwood which offers cafes and Farewell Spit Tours.

This part of the area has a number of potters and artists studios.

Wharariki Beach is by far one of the most stunning beaches in New Zealand. Huge rock formations, sand hills, caves, cliffs, dunes , white sand and baby seals.

Farewell Spit is New Zealand’s longest sand spit (25 km) and a nature reserve. It is an internationally-renowned bird sanctuary with over 90 bird species recorded in the area.

Heaphy Track is one of New Zealand’s nine great walks. Many people choose to walk only to the first or second huts on the track instead of walking its entire length which have toilets and running-water facilities. The Heaphy Track, also allows mountain bikes.

Abel Tasman National Park is a must see, golden sand and clear waters, 3 hour to 3 day walks. Don't forget your camera.

Getting Around:
There is no public transport to or within the Bay, a car is essential.

This bach is one of the better equipped and well appointed that I have stayed at. Lovely and clean and a really good indoor/outdoor flow. Very nice quality overall. Nice touch from the Property Managers to offer goodies to be available on arrival. Would definitely stay again.

Perfect Pohara getaway

We absolutely loved our stay at Pohara - we had been before and stayed at the campground, but this time wanted to bring our dog (he is a part of our family after all!) and this was the perfect place. We loved being able to walk down the driveway and be in the water within 2 minutes! The seat across the road at the end of the driveway was the perfect place for a morning cup of tea. So much room at the house and everything we needed (and more). Hopefully we will be back!

Fantastic spot in Golden Bay

Fantastic property in close proximity to amenities in Takaka. We enjoyed time on the beach at Pohara and the wonderful nearby access to Kahurangi and Abel Tasman National Parks for tramping and running. Comfortable base with plenty of room for the family. Lovely and comfortable house, we loved our stay and hope to be back someday. The kitchen was the best equipped we have found (though a cheese grater would be a good addition!). The garden is completely enclosed so our dog was safe. Only minutes to the beach, and walks along the coast. Would recommend the local pub for food and atmosphere and good music.

Lovely relaxing stay

A great location, directly across the road from the beach (but on a back section) and a short stroll to the dairy for ice-creams, to a cafe for coffee or to a restaurant or bar for dinner. The beach was great for kids - shallow, lots of sand to dig in and driftwood and shells to examine. The house had everything we needed, and was clean and modern. I did think that the ad had said that there was a DVD player, but there wasn't. On the other hand, I had thought that there was no internet, but there was. The property manager was great to deal with. I had email issues on the way up and couldn't find the booking details and she sorted it out. She also organised the cleaner for us at short notice.
