Great property with a woodbug problem

The location is amazing and I was happy to support the non-profit working to maintain the property. We stayed in the Head keeper's House which was well appointed and had great views of the lighthouse and of the surf. The beds were comfortable and the fireplace was cozy. In most ways it met or exceeded my expectations. Unfortunately I can't give more than 3 stars as we woke up to a massive woodbug infestation. Maybe this was a one-off event but there were easily dozens of the insects crawling around when we got up, mostly around the main bedroom. My wife was offput by the carcases left on the floor that clearly remained from bugs we'd inadvertently stepped on during bathroom breaks over night.

Dear Daniel,I'm glad you enjoyed so many aspects of the Lighthouse, even if your stay earned an understandably mixed review. The sow bugs (aka woodbugs) are something of a phenomenon here on the coast. Though I too find them icky, they are harmless, do not carry any disease and are even sometimes kept as pets (like in an ant farm). Nevertheless, no one wants them inside and we are looking into new ways to treat and prevent them.We appreciate your fair review and feedback, and hope the nicer parts of your stay will be the most memorable!

Outside was accessible but no shower chair or bench for the roll in shower. Inside space is also very limited for wheelchair mobility

I am very sorry about your experience, Robert. Unfortunately Expedia does not offer us any way to specific in their listings that we need to be notified that the guest requires the room to be configured for ADA (we do have that on our booking site). When we know that the guest requires the ADA configuration we convert the King bed into 2 Twins and position them against the front and back walls of the room, which provides the ADA compliant turning and bed access space. We also put a portable ADA shower chair in the shower. Had you let us know during your stay that you needed full ADA configuration we would have been happy to do that for you. I have opened a ticket with Expedia to have them address this issue with future reservations. Mark HancockExecutive Director
