Avis pour Dordogne Farmhouse with Large Private Pool
We picked this farmhouse due to the close proximity to our family. What we found was an amazing place! Full of character and full of a family warm feel. Itâs an old building so not perfect but was perfect for us. The owner and property manager were fantastic and dealt with our every request. The property is well equipped with everything you could need. As it is winter we didnât have use of the pool but in summer I could see this place would be even better. Would definitely book again.
A beautiful and very spacious old farmhouse, carefully restored and extremely well-equipped. There were six adults and two children of 6 and 2 in our party, and everyone had a wonderful time.It is obvious that the owners have spent much time and money ensuring that all the facilities - and particularly the fabulous pool - are of the best quality. It feels like a home rather than a holiday house - and despite temperatures up to 40degrees, the thick walls and many fans kept most of us cool. Maybe the top bedrooms not quite so much - but then, it was a heatwave!
A wonderful holiday in an exceptional house! The house itself is a huge renovated farmhouse, full of character. It has all the amenities you could wish for and, thanks to its thick stone walls, stayed cool inside even during a heat wave. The extensive grounds have fruit trees galore, and the huge swimming pool has an impressively well-equipped pool house. Despite the large size of the pool, the temperature stayed at a constant 26-27 degrees, more so than other pools we have known before. The only thing I would advise people to be aware of is that the ground floor of the house is not all on one flat level. There are only 2 or 3 steps up and down to the ground floor bedroom and utility room, so not a problem for most people, but something to the aware of for any people who are slightly less mobile.
It felt like we had arrived at the end of the season to a bit of a mess, everywhere.
The kitchen was dirty, all the surfaces sticky. We cleaned surfaces, cutlery and crockery. We didnât bother with dusting but that had not been done for some time.
The fridge in the utility room was broken, the seal was gone it was leaking, we reported this and it was not fixed. The microwave was very dirty so we avoided using it.
The pool was not heated despite the listing indicating it would be, the cushions, covers etc in the pool area were scattered around. It seemed like they have just been abandoned by the previous guests. It all looked dirty and tired so we avoided using them.
The main door in the kitchen would not lock. the local manager arranged to have it locked but not fixed so it remained locked for the duration of our stay.
The living room smelt, the sofa is past its best, lamps didnât work and we used this room once or twice during our stay as it felt so uncomfortable. This room also had not been dusted or aired for some time.
The main bedroom mattress is lumpy and unpleasant to sleep on.
The bed linen was good quality.
I gave this feedback to the owner but he never replied.
We enjoyed a 2 week stay at the farmhouse for the last 2 weeks of August. The highlight for us was the fantastic pool, a great size and a decent depth. There was enough sun loungers and umbrellas for all 9 of us which was great. The pool house was very handy, especially for storing our ice creams and waters! There was also a Bluetooth speaker so we could enjoy some music around the pool.
The farmhouse itself is a good size, plenty of room for all 9 of us and a dog! 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. Nice sized communal areas for dinner and games. All 9 of us sat round the dining table with plenty of room.
The grounds are overgrown compared to the pictures but I believe this is due to their lawnmower breaking so couldnât be helped, however 2 members of my family are disabled and it was quite difficult for them to get around.
If you are afraid of wasps please be aware that on the hot days there are lots of them about! Also would recommend packing some mosquito spray as plenty of those around too!
The farmhouse is a short drive to the intermarche and some local restaurants. Also a very close drive to the local vet âClinique Veterinaire Vallee de lâIsleâ if you are taking your dog and need to get the worming tablet before going home.
Overall we would recommend the farmhouse if you are looking for a very relaxing break with a fantastic pool.
We had a fantastic stay at the villa. The pictures online don't do it justice, the villa is very large with lovely grounds and the pool area is a really great size. The Kitchen is incredibly well stocked with everything you could need and having the pool house is a real added bonus.
The rooms are nicely spaced out so you feel you do have your own space if travelling with others, they can get warm but fans were provided in every room. The bathrooms are a nice size with a couple of small ensuites and one large one. Due to Covid we didn't get to explore the area as much as we would have liked too but with the villa being such a great space we were happy to spend every day there! We will definitely be back.
A lovely spacious property perfect for large families with lots of different eating and seating areas so you have room to chill. A great pool area with a very large pool and large grounds to explore. Everything you need for a holiday. We were three generations and we all enjoyed ourselves. The bedrooms are large and comfortable and the bathrooms plentiful. The updated ones were particularly well done. The location was great just a few minutes drive from St Astier and supermarket and restaurants and half an hour or so from BrantĂŽme which is a beautiful place to visit. We would happily recommend this property and would love to visit again.
Property just fantastic to look at- picturesque and rustic and modern all together.
Property size superb- we were party of 7 including an 85 y.o mother-in-law (!), two 17 years old Yadults, and two couples. We all had both our own space and more than enough to entertain all of us for meals or games. All accessible to the different levels of ability. Immediate grounds beautiful and cornfields at rear a lovely view each morning and evening. No light pollution so night skies splendid- saw 5 (!) shooting stars in one sitting!
Property & fixtures and fittings standard is exceptional....facilities (not that I had intention of doing any washing but...) included everything to make a long stay fully do-able.And a shorter stay (6 days in our case) just so easy - dishwasher etc. Fridge size very accommodating.
Pool area superb and nice temperature to cool off in 38 degrees heat we had in late August.
Local area provided excellent supermarket, fabulous markets and good vet to satisfy current Pet Passport requirements if taking dog along.
We did and labrador Stanley loved property too- gardens big enough and secure enough for him to wander in and find shade.
Local towns - Periguex, Brantome & Aubeterre sur Drone (fresh water beach !)- all worth visiting.
DOUZE POINTS!

A lovely spacious property with a perfect mixture of traditional and modern.
We stayed at Guibaudie as a party of 4 adults and 5 children aged 9 to 16 and the family dog. We had plenty of space in the house and the owners were very helpful in adding beds where we wanted them. The house itself is beautiful and the new kitchen is a fantastic focal point. The house was clean and extremely well equipped with great attention to detail. The gardens were extensive and very well kept as well as being fully enclosed so we had no worries about the dog! The pool is huge and kept beautifully. We made great use of the pool house with its shower, fridge and plenty of plastic glasses for refreshments. The house is well appointed in peaceful, secluded surroundings but still close to supermarkets and towns . We had a choice of several outside eating areas for all our alfresco lunches and evening bbqs. The owners, agents and maintenence staff couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly. We had thoroughly relaxing holiday and have already recommended Guibaudie to friends!
