At such a busy time of year (the holidays) the hotel was severly understaffed. It's beautifully decorated and so it becomes a destination for locals/tourists. You'll have to avoid walking through many an influencer video/photo moment. But to wait over 30 minutes to even get to the bar to order a drink (even as a guest of the hotel), or to have to wait 2+ hours, no matter the time of day, for a table at the diner, without a way to reserve in advance (again, even as a guest of the hotel)...it makes coming to the Lafayette less desirable as a guest. The room we were in was also above a space that had club music going all night until 7am (??) [They provided earplugs on the night stand.] You might as well just go there for the decor, overpriced drinks and lines and stay somewhere else less loud, crazy and with better customer service. (Though the in-room bar was quite impressive, we opted to stay in the room most nights for our nightcaps.) But bravo to the incredible valet team who were doing amazing work with patience and grace. And if you are in town during the holidays, peek in to see the decor. It is stunning. But brace yourself for lines that aren't even present in NYC these days.

The Lafayette Hotel is one of my new favorite hotels! It was so incredibly decorated for the holiday season. Absolutely spectacular! It was busy and filled with guests around Christmas. Very lively! So much to do there and it's a lot of fun! It's the perfect getaway whether you are visitIng from out of town or a local here in San Diego.

Amazing Customer service!! When we walked in to our room, we noticed that there was a leak on the sealing of our room. We went to notify them at the front desk and they took very good care of us with another room. Very friendly staff and will recommend everyone to stay here.

We paid a high premium for this room and it was right next to the bar which we did not know when booking, so was extremely noisy and kept us up at night (bar closes later on Friday nights). There was also a huge fight happening in the middle of the night between guests in the room next door, so we were up from around 2-4am. The staff themselves were lovely but no one was able to resolve the situation for us, didn't offer us a room or any compensation for being disturbed for hours in the middle of the night. Considering the price we paid, this is really not OK. They then texted us and asked for feedback, and didn't really have anything to offer when I shared my experience. They should really disclose that the room is right next to the bar in advance, so that guests can have the option to pick it or not. It is a fun lovely hotel but the rooms not being soundproofed enough being that close to the bar really soured our experience.

A very crowded hotel. We were here over the Christmas and it was virtually impossible to be seated for meals or at the bar. The hotel room was incredibly cramped. The bed, however, was comfortable and pillows & linens were great. The shower was odd - rain shower head was tilted inwards to avoid the water being splashed out onto floor creating awkward water flow. Sink wouldn’t drain. The very elaborate bar in the room was so big there was very little space to walk around the bed. Very dark decor in room - felt cave like. The hotel itself is interesting “maximalist decor” with a fun vibe - especially the pool area, but overall our experience wasn’t that great. We travel a lot and mostly stay in 4 star properties. We were only here for location near family and didn’t want an AirBnB. I honestly wouldn’t stay here again. Was it an “experience “? Yes. Felt a bit like Disneyland at Christmas with all the chaos included.

The hotel itself was beautiful. But not sure if it was the time of year or not what we expected. But it was insanely crowded and noisy. We ended up checking out early and not staying a full night because of the loud music and crowds of people we could hear from our room up till 11 PM. Also there was a constant humming/shrieking sound whenever someone used the water or bathroom. So not sure if the plumbing or pipes were having issues.
