I originally booked this reservation through Travelocity in Canadian Dollars (CAD). Upon checkout, the hotel insisted on converting the bill first into Chilean Pesos (CLP), and subsequently into US Dollars (USD). Furthermore, a 20% surcharge was applied for the option of paying in local currency. The cumulative effect of these conversions and fees resulted in a final charge that was 49% higher than the original booking price. This is an exploitation of currency exchange hegemonies at the expense of international guests. With travel plans pending it was a waste of my time to fight this on check out - wasted an hour and my breath on this. Given a threat if not pay the fee they charged. I travel a lot and have never experienced such coercive billing practices before. I will cross Hilton off of any future choices in travel.
