The view is incredible. That is the last of my compliments.
Hot water ran out after about 6 minutes.
The power on the island went out almost every night which is terrible for someone who has to use a CPAP to sleep. It seemed as though all of the units around us had generators. If we had one it was never brought to our attention.
We had no way to exit the compound because the gate would only open from the outside. This could be an issue if there is an emergency and you can't get out. We could only exit the gate by standing around and waiting for a car to enter. Another resident told us we should have been given a key fob to open the gate but the host said he had never heard of such a thing. He told us the gate should open by a sensor when you walked up to it but this was not the case. I tried with both the entrance and exit.
St. Thomas is a beautiful island with a lot to offer. Find somewhere else to stay.
The owner responded quickly to any questions which arose. Check-in and check-out were easy. The view from the balcony is wonderful. It is a very steep and windy road to the place. Glad we arrived during daylight.
This was our first time to St. Thomas and we did not know how mountainous it is. If renting a car, make sure to get one that can make it up the mountains. You'll need a smaller vehicle (not SUV) to park at this place.
Pros: view, neighbors who lived nearby were friendly, kitchen was well equipped (but could use some pot holders), bed was comfortable, designated parking spot.
Cons: the sliding doors to the balcony are very heavy and hard to open and close, the backs of the doors where the doorknobs are could use a good cleaning, there is only AC in the bedroom. If you're a light sleeper, bring ear plugs because there are feral chickens that make noise all day and night long and there's a neighbor who leaves for work at 4:30am. Also, we saw a cockroach the first night there, and a few days later we had bugs on the towels.
In addition, I think you may have to supply your own shampoo and soap. There was a little bit there when we arrived, but we had to purchase more. Moreover, there isn't a hair dryer.
Great views, comically untraditional stay. Asked taxi driver to take us here and they acted like we were crazy, said hadnt taken anyone to Shibui in 10 years. Needed a gate code, but wasn't aware in advance and had to call. This stay is part of a community built in 1960s called Shibui Japanese condos. Most people live here, no vacationers. No amenities on site. Not good if you don't have a car. We got lucky and used an app to have pizza delivered. Can't walk anywhere cause hill road too dangerous. Community pool has caution tape near it and has a fence that is falling apart. Shame cause this place looks like if it was maintained would be really nice.
Place has large sliding doors and screen doors to get some of that amazing Cliffside breeze. The balcony is the highlight, but some of the rail doesn't seem safe., broken random screws exposed. Would not recommend for young children. Large king bed one bedroom, looks like another bedroom but door was bolted. House was outfitted with lego decor and hello kitty blanket which was fun . No coffee pot, French press. No shower soap, but there were condoms in the drawer. If your new to island thing, only ac in bedroom.
The night stay price is cheap but be wary of all fees that more than doubled the night price. For that price you expect a professionally managed place. This place looks like your 25 year old cousin cleaned up their place to let you stay the night--but it does have a great view!
I had a great stay here. The view was absolutely stunning. Being up on the side of the mountain was great. Very private but less than 5 min away from town. I will definitely stay again.
