Beautiful inn but beware certain rooms

Overall the inn is lovely, but I would not stay in the Croft room again and would mostly write off the free breakfast. The Croft room said "mountain view" on hotels.com but it just looked out onto the post office and the main house. On the inn's website it advertised a wood fireplace (which was a selling point for us) but it was actually gas. The heat in the house that Croft and other rooms are in is central, so you can't control the heat from your room. You're supposed to text a number to have them change it but I didn't want to get in a thermometer war with the other guests... One of the biggest turnoffs was the toilet - it is situated so you can't sit straight on it without your knees hitting a radiator box. They should consider renovating this. The shower could also use an update - it was pretty grody. Also not outlets available by the bedside on either side - pretty annoying. Breakfast was brought to the room, which was nice, but it was very basic and didn't seem homemade for the most part - mini breakfast burrito (seemed similar to the frozen ones you can buy in bulk), bulk muffins, vanilla sweetened yogurt with granola, OJ, coffee. Again the overall setting is beautiful, I just wouldn't stay in this particular room and would be careful to study the pictures of the other rooms, especially the bathroom. I also would try to book 24 hours in advance to get the chance to order a nicer version of breakfast (but not sure that would be possible).

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I had a feeling we'd hear from you this way since we didn't honor your request for a refund because of the radiator/toilet issue. Unfortunately, while renovating the bathroom is a great idea, relocating plumbing of the toilet and/or radiator is simply not in the cards for our 100+ year old building/house. In the 13 years of our ownership, you are the first guest to have an issue and make a complaint about this, so we are chalking it up to a personal issue for you and not an issue that is of immediate concern. What is of immediate concern is using bleach on some of the shower caulk, if not recaulking the areas that need attention. Thank you for sharing that with us!As to your other issues, we never advertised a wood-burning fireplace. In fact, just the opposite. Our website clearly states all fireplaces are gas. In future, please don't tamper with propane fireplaces without supervision or notifying the front desk. When you turned off the propane to your fireplace without telling us, you reset the entire remote control and extinguished the pilot light, which resulted in us having to repair the fireplace for the next guest who was excited to use it. Had you booked with us directly and not via a third-party site you might have noticed that we don't advertise wood-burning. We don't list any of our fireplace rooms with third party sites in actuality.Your recommendation to book in advance is wise. Waiting until the last minute always means you are going to get whatever is left and doesn't give you the option to pick and choose your preferred room. You can also book directly with us and see photos of rooms and bathrooms (specifically how close the toilet might be to a radiator, for example).Lastly, relating to breakfast, we try to make everything in house, and have a dedicated breakfast chef who works tirelessly to make nice options for our guests. Sometimes we make items in house (burritos), sometimes we use products from vendors who carry items we consider of high quality (muffins). Either way, we are proud of the breakfast that we send to guests and are always working to make it a great part of the guest experience.

We enjoyed the unique setting, comfortable room, and outstanding food, both at the restaurant and in our room where a delicious breakfast was brought to us. We definite plan to return!
